Flamingo Chicks keeps Covid-anxious children calm

Free, and available now!

Flamingo Chicks is launching a unique new workshop to help children with the pressure they and their families are under. This new offering comes off the back of the Flamingo Chicks’ hugely successful virtual classes – which were viewed a quarter of a million times during the first UK lockdown!

This new class is ideal as an emergency calming measure – but also helps to deal with ongoing anxiety. While great for ALL children, it’s particularly made with disabled children in mind and includes Makaton signing.

Movement and working with our bodies are essential for our wellbeing, particularly during times of stress and anxiety, because this enables us to fully connect with the part of the autonomic nervous system that supports us to ‘rest and restore’. Our thoughts and mental wellbeing are deeply connected to our nervous system, and so movement is an essential element for this as well as physical health.” Katie Sparkes, Flamingo Chicks’ Founder.

What others say

Flamingo Chicks’ virtual classes made a marked difference to families with disabled children – “They give our families the chance to access something hugely therapeutic for their child that siblings can engage in also. In this very difficult time, it is vital that we can continue to offer our families chances to be creative, express emotion, have fun and make precious memories.” Emma Atkins Play coordinator at Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.

“During the pandemic it become clear there is a significant lack of accessible arts content but this is where Flamingo Chicks comes in. We have been sharing the resources to over 2000 people with complex disabilities across the UK, outreaching to all of our services and the feedback has been amazing!” Sunney Sharma, Arts and Wellbeing Manager – Sense, the national disability charity

The unique, fully accessible and Makaton signed virtual dance classes remain available for children of all abilities, but especially aimed at those with autism, profound and multiple learning disabilities and physical impairments.
